For a one-of-a-kind shopping experience, the bustling Cayman Craft Market in downtown George Town is a good place to in the culture and heritage of the Cayman Islands. Located on the corner of Boilers Road and South Church Street, the Craft Market is just a short stroll from the cruise ship dock.
It was developed as a venue for local artists and artisans to display and sell their indigenous art and craft and to become an integral part of the tourism product.
A stop at the Craft Market puts visitors in touch with the local artisans who create and display uniquely Caymanian art and craft souvenirs. Items made from leather, thatch, wood, and shell abound and locally made jams, jellies and pickles can also be found.

Monday to Friday 8:30 pm – 3:00 pm.
Occasionally open on Saturdays during high season.
Closed Christmas Day and Good Friday.
Becoming a Craft Market Vendor
The following steps are necessary to obtain a licence to do business at the Cayman Craft Market:
1).Complete and return the ‘Vendor Application Form’ to the TAB Administrative Offices in the Crighton Building on Crewe Road. Forms may also be picked up from the TAB Administrative Offices. Photographs of the products you wish to sell must accompany the application form.
2).The application is passed on to the Manager of the market for feedback.
3).A meeting time is set with the CEO to discuss the application with the prospective vendor. At this time it is advised that the applicant bring samples of the products they wish to sell in order to better illustrate their proposal.
4).The CEO decides if a licence should be issued.
5).If a licence is issued, the applicant must pay the prescribed fee(s) and sign a formal licence agreement.
6).Once the licence is issued, the new vendor contacts the Craft Market manager to arrange a date to start at the market.

Caymanite - The gemstone of the Cayman Islands
A fine collection of Caymanite jewellery and souvenirs is available at the Craft Market and crafter Launa Green will share a wealth of information about this local treasure.
Caymanite is a rare semi-precious rock found only in the Cayman Islands. A hard dolomite, formed during the Oligocene-Miocene epoch, Caymanite has layers of colours in beautiful earth tones, formed by the different metallic content of the strata. Manganese dominates in the black layers and iron produces shades of red. Nickel, titanium and copper are also present.
Black coral - Treasures from the deep
You will also find a fascinating collection of black coral jewellery and accent pieces at the Craft Market. The polished sea coral has a fine lustre and sculpted pieces make for some very valuable and long lasting works of art.
