Mr. Martins is known throughout the Caribbean as the founder-leader of the revered Tradewinds band that came to prominence in the 1970s with his original songs about Caribbean life. Migrating to the Cayman Islands in 1982 he served as Chairman of Cayman’s Cultural Foundation for six years. In 1984 he initiated and produced the country’s costume carnival event (Batabano) for the Rotary Club, earning the Paul Harris Fellow award. In 1994 he designed and launched the country’s national arts festival, Cayfest. In 1991 he conceived and wrote the topical revue, Rundown, which has become a tradition in the Cayman Islands. In 1998 he was named Executive Director of the Pirates Week National Festival (a post he still holds) and concurrently filled the General Manager role for the Tourism Attractions Board from 2001 to 2002. In 2002 he was elected President of the Cayman Music & Entertainment Association, and re-elected in 2003.

A seventh generation Caymanian, Jeán-eric Smith, has been a long supporter for the development of the Cayman Craft Market. Having a tremendous passion for his Caymanian heritage and for local artists’ talent, he has been an advocate for artisans to have a home that provides them with a greater opportunity to sell their wares in a craft market style venue.
The Cayman Craft Market had its first home at the Old Almond Tree location in 2002, soon thereafter it moved to The Quincentennial Park in central George Town. On May 11, 2005 Mr. Smith’s dreams were realized when the Cayman Craft Market was dedicated by the then Minister of Tourism, and officially opened for business on September 23, at its current site on the waterfront. The Cayman Craft Market is now a Government own project and is managed by the Tourism Attraction Board and Mr. Smith is the site manager.
He is the founder and Managing Director of Youngblood Productions, a local productions company. A local musician and recording artist since the tender age of 11, Mr. Smith is also currently Vice President of the Cayman Music and Entertainment Association and is renown across the Caribbean as a singer.
